Announcing the 2019 Altium FR-1 Challenge

Posted by Goli Mohammadi on Jan 23, 2019 6:56:30 PM

Our friends at Altium just launched an amazing new contest called the FR-1 Challenge, open to the entire CircuitMaker, Upverter, and Altium design communities, and the grand prize is none other than a shiny new Bantam Tools Desktop PCB Milling Machine!

Altium's software offerings are known to help make PCB design smoother and more accessible, and there's no better tool for making professional-quality PCBs directly from your workbench than our Bantam Tools Desktop PCB Milling Machine. Match made in heaven, right? The sky's the limit to how innovative you can get.

The grand prize winner of the last iteration of this contest was Roberto Lo Giacco, based in Italy. His winning project, called FlexiPower, is a portable, battery operated, voltage- and current-controlled power supply you can control via a mobile application on your smartphone. Check out his full documentation on CircuitMaker and be amazed.

Project Submission Requirements

Only open source projects created in Altium CircuitMaker, CircuitStudio, Upverter, and Designer/Nexus can participate. There's no requirement for the design to be a brand-new project—it can be one you started earlier but needed to finish. Designs that are imported from other PCB design software are not allowed. Designs that are re-creations of existing open source projects are not allowed either. Be creative, make something new, and share it with others!

To submit your design, you must:

  • Create a project page for it with complete documentation about the project at:
    • (for CircuitMaker based designs)
    • (for Upverter projects)
    • Your own blog or web page, Instructables, Hackaday, Hackster or github (for CircuitStudio or Altium Designer projects)
    • Altium Designer projects can be posted on CircuitMaker using Export/Import (strongly encouraged).
  • If your project was created and shared on Upverter or done using CircuitStudio or Altium Designer, you must create the project write-up (documentation explaining what it does, why you created it. etc.) and include links to the original source files. Using Upverter, you can even embed the design in an iframe if you wish.
  • Connect with CircuitMaker and/or Upverter on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter with the hashtag #FR1Challenge

That’s it! Make something, write about it, connect on social. The folks at Altium will automatically enter you with the email address on file with your login. Full contest rules and judging criteria can be viewed on CircuitMaker.

Enter for a chance to win the versatile, precise Bantam Tools Desktop PCB Milling Machine!
