We have seen enough great progress on software from our team and hardware from our new contract manufacturer that we are now confident about setting a shipping date for our Kickstarter machines. If all goes according to plan, we will be shipping in four weeks. I know that still feels like a long way off, but we have purposefully not stated any dates for shipping until now, because we wanted you to feel confident in the date that we set.
The prototype machine we showcased on Kickstarter and the final machine we’ll be shipping.
One of the benefits of shipping in four that our scalable manufacturing operation will be in place with the contract manufacturer. Once shipping starts, all of the Othermills will be delivered within a much shorter window of time than if we had been manufacturing all of them in-house. We also will have manufactured enough machines to be able to handle any repairs or exchanges that might happen.
The first eight versions, plus a few extra.
Since we launched the Kickstarter campaign, we have gone through ten versions of the Othermill. Each revision yielded smaller and smaller changes, until we could confidently reproduce stacks of precision parts for the final version. It takes a ton of patience and attention to detail to build a machine like the one we’ve made, and we appreciate all our backers for going through that process with us.
